Jan 4th. The Bedroom

Starting item# 0

I am starting simply, with the top of the chest of drawers next to my bed.

1. Bedside lamp. This came from a dump run, a friend was throwing it away and I needed one.

2. Vase, tattoo art by David Williams, formerly of The Crows Nest, Brighton. Black with a koi and waves. He gave this to me after the Jurassic Park Tattoo Convention. Inside is half of a dried lobster tail.

3. Ringpull tin with a gherkin. Called ‘Get One!’, canned by Spreewaldhof. ‘Def Gurken-Snack vom Heimathof fur Gurkenfans’. Use by date is 31-12-2022. Dammit! Think I bought this on the way back from Bretten , Germany, in 2019.

4. Mantle clock. Inherited from my father. This sat on the mantle piece in his parents home. When my grandmother died this was,according to him, the only thing he wanted.

5. Screen print, titled ‘YES!’ #6 of 25. By NICK. Purchased in 2009, from Brighton as a present for my sister but when she moved to France I was given it back.

12. 500g pure China Black Tea [tea brick], still wrapped. Expires March 2036. Purchased at the California Trail Center in 2019.

13. White cardboard box containing a small UV torch. No batteries.

14. Box: World’s Smallest 3D Puzzle. 24 pieces. Christmas gift.

15. Silver ring, made from a Silver Florin, purchased from jewellery shop in Dukes Lane, Brighton.

16. 15mm screw, Phillips.

17. LUSH Beard and Facial Wash. Christmas present.

18. Mitchum deodorant stick.

19. Badge, pewter. The All-Seeing Cat. Baseman-Dark Horse mercy from the Veritas range. Purchased in a charity shop for £3.

21. Old bowl, patterned. Printed ‘Alfred Meakin’ and ‘Craven’ on the base. Contains all the following:

23. Lottery ticket from Oct 22. Unchecked…

24. Scallop shell. Brought back from Oslo, Norway in 2018. Expensive dinner, I took it as I paid for it.

25. Brass pendant in a shield shape,pressed emblem of a fiery grenade. Possibly French fire brigade related. Purchased for 5Euro at a flea market in Paris. Three hooks at the top and bent pins on the rear.

27. Silver case pocket watch with chain. Broken, no glass. Machine tooled case, dented. Given to me by my aunt, from a house clearance. Quoted repair was way too much.

28. Brass pendant in a shield shape, pressed emblem of a fiery grande, as with 25 & 26, this was purchased for 5Euro at a flea market in Paris in 2017.

29. EE Mifi with SIM card. Used for camping or work travel (before unlimited data on phones…

30. Pendent, resin. Skull with tentacles. Woven cord with catch. Purchased off Etsy.

37. Ring, made from a silver spoon. Goes on little finger. Bought at Beautiful Days probably 8-9 years ago.

40. Plastic toy, skeleton with staff. I think this came from a bubble gum style dispensing machine at the Valley Caravan Park lounge, in Polzeath, as our boys were obsessed with them.

41. Shard of animal skull, upper jaw and nasal.

42. Ski pass holder, which has a pulley cord. No idea where that came from as I haven’t been skiing since ‘94

43. Brass key for the mantle clock.

44. Arthurs Tree dried seaweed from Tintagel Beach, Cornwall.

45. Bronze medallion, ‘Cicade de Setubal’. Purchased from a charity shop.

46. Cufflink, left. Printed hand and ‘LEFT’ on ceramic.

47. Pendant, agate. Carved animal, like a ferret. purchased at a Rock & Gem fair at Brighton Race Course.

48. Brass clip-on earring. Oval with wavy cut-outs. Very 80’s. No idea where that came from.

50. Medal, celebrating the Battle of Waterloo, 1815. Re-issued on 200 year anniversary.

51. Dolly Parton key ring, from her tour in 2014? Bought for me by my friend Richard.

52. Victorian brass penny, worn to be almost unrecognisable. Given to me by my aunt, I think.

63. 50 pence piece, celebrating Brexit. Given to me by my friend, John, as he knows how I feel about Brexit.

Total # for the top of the dresser is 63.

Most of these will stay where they are for now, some things will be tidied to their correct place – like the screws and plugs- but the rest are there for me to see when I get out of bed.
